The Rotorua Regional Airport is located just 6 km northeast of the Rotorua CBD. The airport was until recently called International instead of Regional one as Air New Zealand offered flights from Rotorua to Sydney, Australia, but these were terminated in 2015 when the District Counsel decided to stop subsidising this route. The airport is fairly small but it does has a book store and cafe and a two-storey terminal building. At the moment Air New Zealand Link operates flights from Rotorua Airport to Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch while Sunair can bring you to Gisborne or North Shore. There are plans to expand this list with Nelson and Queenstown.
Rotorua Regional Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Rotorua Regional Airport, most of these are operated by Air New Zealand. Many people take a flight to Auckland and transfer to another flight there.
Car rental and taxi companies are widely available at Rotorua Airport. Super Shuttle operates a door-to-door shuttle service between the airport and the city. You can also take one of the public busses (Naked Bus) that stop at the airport or the Cityride Rotorua.
