Lion Air and sister airlines get IATA safety certifications

We never thought we'd see the day we'd report on Lion Air positively.

Lion Air has, more often than not, been negatively reported on by the media for its constant flight delays and poor service. Some of us were probably wary of flying with Lion Air, or its sister airlines Batik Air and Wings Air, after they were all featured in's 10 least safe airlines in the world.

Part of the reason the airlines showed up on that unenviable list was because they didn't possess safety certifications from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which was something they recently put right.

"œLion Air has officially obtained the Operational Safety Audit certification from IATA (IOSA). This shows that in terms of safety operations, we are now up to standard," said Lion Air General Director Edward Sirait, as quoted by Kompas today.
