Fear of heights or commonly called Acrophobia is a condition where a person has excessive fear while being in high places, like tall buildings, towers, or in an airplane. This condition is often caused by a related accident. For those who are afraid of heights being in an airplane may seem daunting. Most people avoid flying all together but if you need to go overseas for your work or holiday you are often forced to go by airplane. You can do some special preparations before your flight that will reduce the fear and make flying a bit less stressful.
Take a meal before you go to the airport. The food will keep your blood sugar levels normal. The air pressure in the airplane will lower the sugar levels in your blood, especially for longer flights. When you feel panic it will even lower the sugar levels in your blood more and you may feel weak feel like you are going to faint, resulting in even more panic.
Prepare carefully and arrive on time
Prepare everything carefully well in advance like packing and making sure you have packed everything and are well on time at the airport for checkin. These things will not reduce the fear of heights but will make sure you do not have more stress than necessary.
Bring back the fun
Do things you like before entering the plane, you can listen to music, try read a book or play games. These things will make you feel more relaxed and calm.
Try to sleep
Try to close your eyes when the plane takes off. You will feel scared and uncomfortable because of the shock. Closing your eyes can make you feel more relaxed and it can calm your mind.
This is important not only for people who are afraid of heights but also for those of you who are afraid the airplane will crash. Try to think positive, relax your mind, do some meditation exercises, pray, and remain calm while on the plane. It will help you to control your thoughts and fears and making the flight more comfortable.
